port aransas, part II (4th of July)

Monday, July 7, 2008

We woke up to the sound of rain on our windows on the 4th of July. We were a bit concerned that we might be stuck inside all day by the looks of the huge patch of green on the radar. I kept an eye on the sky, hoping for a break in the clouds, while the boys got serious about playing some board games like....

Stratego...

and Monopoly...Will is "teaching" them how to play as you can see
We finally got to go outside and enjoy the beach for a few, brief minutes before another downpour started. And by the time we got back over the sand dunes and near the condo, the rain had let up enough for us to head to the pool. We enjoyed the pool for most of the afternoon.

Papoo and Ben

We ate a yummy dinner outside; with all the rain the temperatures were really pleasant. Uncle Joe grilled the steaks while the rest of the boys played bocce ball with Papoo's new set. Ben was really good at it.

We took the boys to see their first live fireworks show that night. We weren't too sure how it would be. We found amazingly close side-by-side parking spots, found a great place to put all our chairs, and waited. The first ones we saw were kind of small, low on the horizon, and not too impressive. But I kept thinking, there is no way all these people are here for this! And sure enough, pretty soon the big ones started. I wish I had a video of Ben experiencing fireworks for the first time. The whole time, he was talking non-stop about them, all the comments proceeded by "Ma-ee (Mommy)...." He would see a purple one (his favorite color) and throw his arms up in the air above his head and shout, "purple!" Will sat there and just soaked it all in quietly. It was a lot of fun!
