Each summer, we are invited to go with Jim's family to the beach at the Texas coast for the Fourth of July weekend. We haven't been able to go for the past few years. Last year, Texas had been so inundated, the Corpus Christi area was literally flooding at the beginning of July, so our trip was cancelled. The two years before, we had conflicts that kept us from going. Ben doesn't remember much about going when he was about 2 years old, so this was like a completely new experience for him. It was great fun to watch through his eyes and see things anew. When he wrote a postcard to his buddy Makenzie, he told her, "there is a ferry here, and two pools here, and a beach here." Each year, we also deal with the incredible amount of seaweed that washes ashore at this time of year. You can see it in the background of the picture below. We've come to accept its presence, but Jim pointed out that it is kind of weird looking in the background if you're not sure what it is.
