That night, Aunt Ginger took the boys on an after-dark hike across the golf course near her house. They enjoyed carrying their flashlights and going on an adventure.
Today, we went to a park in Baytown that was created from a subdivision that was destroyed by Hurricane Alicia in 1983. The park is Baytown Nature Center. It includes views of the San Jacinto Memorial, the bay, and has lots of trails around the surrounding wetlands. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we had a great time.
Will talking to Grandma about fishing
our little scientist
checking out the pink spoonbill ibises in a nearby tree
our rock collector searching for rocks to toss into the wetlands
enjoying a quiet moment together (jim's artistic eye)
The Baytown Nature Center is a beautiful place...with one exception...the view towards land...
with Baytown's ever-present oil refineries in the distance. There's a sign as you enter the park stating that there is an advisory against eating any of the sealife in the area because they contain high levels of dioxin. Still, there were people all over fishing, and we had to assume possibly eating what they caught. Ah, Baytown...
We had a great trip but are glad to be home again.
