Field day last year was painful. Tears. Buckets of tears after the ribbon ceremony (Will, not his mom). So, this year, I went to extra lengths to make sure I was there for him, concerned that he'd have another tough year given that the genes my boy received are bigger on smarts than on coordination. So, we had a little conversation the day before on the way home.
Will: I cannot WAIT for field day tomorrow!
Me: (puzzled look on my face) Really? Why?
Will: It will be sooooooo fun!
Me: Do you remember field day last year, Will?
Will: Yes.
Me: Do you remember crying at field day last year, Will?
Will: Yes. But I am not going to do that this year.
Will: Yes. But I am not going to do that this year.
Me: Really? What changed?
Will: I saw this bulletin board. It said, "If you have fun, you won." And so I know that now. I don't have to get ribbons to have fun.
